Ready to learn how to draft your own sewing patterns from scratch? Cut & Sew for Beginners is Taylor M Academy’s flagship pattern drafting course in Trinidad, a structured, hands-on programme that teaches you to work independently like a real patternmaker. No prior experience required.

Over 24 hours of in-studio instruction (8 sessions × 3 hours, twice per week), you’ll move from understanding body measurements to drafting your own skirt sloper, manipulating it into original designs, and constructing a finished garment. This is not a follow-along pattern drafting course in Trinidad, you’ll learn the drafting system behind the patterns, so you can create your own designs long after the course ends.

Cut & Sew for Level 1 for Beginners runs once a year. Only 9 students are accepted per intake.

What You’ll Learn In This Pattern Drafting Course In Trinidad

• Sewing Machine Basics: Get comfortable operating a sewing machine — learn threading, essential stitches, and machine handling so you can confidently sew your garment from start to finish.
• Pattern Drafting Foundations: Learn how to take accurate body measurements and draft your own basic skirt sloper from scratch — the foundation block for all skirt designs.
• Pattern Manipulation: Manipulate your basic sloper to create different skirt styles and silhouettes. Understand darts, seam placement, and how small changes create entirely different garments.
• Garment Construction: Take your drafted pattern from paper to fabric — learn cutting, assembly, and finishing to bring your own design to life.

Sourcing Your Own Fabric:

As part of this course, you’ll purchase your own fabric, zipper, thread, and notions for your final garment project. This is intentional. This course includes a full fabric-selection module where you learn to evaluate weight, drape, grain, and yardage, then you apply that knowledge by sourcing your own materials as an assignment. Learning to select and source fabric independently is a core part of becoming a patternmaker, not an add-on.

How Is This Different From The Beginner Sewing Bootcamp?

The 3 Day Beginner Sewing Bootcamp teaches you to sew using a commercial (pre-made) pattern. Cut & Sew is a pattern drafting course in Trinidad for beginners that teaches you to create your own patterns from scratch. Many students do both, start with the Bootcamp, then level up with Cut & Sew.

Prerequisites:

• Absolutely NO prior sewing or pattern drafting experience required.
• No need to know how to use a sewing machine, we’ll teach you.
• A willingness to learn and commit to 8 sessions over 4 weeks.

Investment & Payment Structure:

• Course Fee: TTD $5,000
• Payment 1: $1,500 deposit to secure your spot
• Payment 2: $2,000 due two weeks before Session 1
• Payment 3: $1,500 due by Session 4

Your spot is only confirmed once the deposit is received. This class is limited to 9 students and runs once per year.

Registration & Policies

To secure your spot, a non-refundable deposit is required. The deposit amount and payment structure are outlined at checkout. Your space is only confirmed once payment is received. Payment plans may be available, with the remaining balance due by the start of the first class.

TM Academy reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes with insufficient enrollment. In such cases, fees paid will be refunded or transferred to a future class date. A minimum number of students is required for classes to proceed.
